Is synthetic motorcycle oil worth the extra cost over regular motorcycle oil?
Read the question above for the many benefits of synthetics. AMSOIL Synthetic Motorcycle Oil may be the most cost-effective upgrade you can make to your motorcycle. It’s even more cost effective with Preferred Customer wholesale pricing – you can get a better price than at your local Canadian Tire if you plan ahead.
Are there any downsides to using synthetic motorcycle oil?
Absolutely none. AMSOIL Synthetic Motorcycle Oils are designed to be superior to conventional motorcycle oil in every aspect.
Does synthetic oil cause wet clutch problems?
AMSOIL Synthetic Motorcycle Oils are 100% compatible with wet-clutches. In fact they are more “clutch friendly” than most conventional motorcycle oils because of superior heat resistance. The base oil – be it synthetic or conventional – has nothing to do with a motorcycle oil’s wet-clutch compatibility. Friction modifiers found in all modern automotive engine oils will cause wet clutch problems such as slippage and clutch plate glazing. Oils designed specifically for motorcycles do not contain friction modifiers.
Do I need to use an AMSOIL Ea Motorcycle Oil Filter with AMSOIL Synthetic Motorcycle Oils?
No. Any oil filter that is suitable for your motorcycle will work.
BUT … the AMSOIL Ea Motorcycle Oil Filters offer benefits that complement AMSOIL synthetic oils.
- Offer industry-leading protection with an efficiency rating of 98.7% at 15 microns.
- Are constructed with high-quality components for long service intervals.
Check the AMSOIL motorcycle oil pages for MCV and MCF in the service life section of those oils the current recommendation is twice the manufacturers suggested oil change interval. The AMSOIL EAOM oil filters match that service interval – while standard filters should be changed as recommended.
Is AMSOIL Synthetic Motorcycle Oil compatible with regular motorcycle oil?
Yes. Any remnants of conventional motorcycle oil left in your engine or transmission will not cause any problems. AMSOIL Synthetic Oils are completely compatible with regular oils. You can use standard oils for top-ups on the road. Mixing other oils decreases AMSOILs service life interval to the manufacturers suggested oil change interval.
Do you offer AMSOIL for my ATV or Side by Side?
Yes for any brand. Do you have a Polaris ATV that requires a 2W-50 engine oil or an Arctic Cat that requires 5W-50? AMSOIL Formula 4-Stroke Powersports 0W-40 Synthetic Oil replaces both of these products and offers much steadier protection. AMSOIL Powersports 0W-40 is also suitable for Honda®, Yamaha®, Bombardier®, Suzuki® and Kawasaki® ATV’s.
What other motorcycle products do you offer beside oil and filters?
Two-stroke oil, suspension fluid, octane boost, fuel additives, NGK spark plugs, synthetic water resistant grease and much more. See the complete AMSOIL Motorcycle product line.

Harley-Davidson Specific Questions
Can I use 20w-50 in the engine, transmission and primary chaincase of my Harley?
AMSOIL 20W-50 MCV is designed for cool, smooth operation in Harley engines. It is also equipped with extreme pressure additives for outstanding wear control of gears and chains. This is a “no-compromise” oil for all three holes.
How does AMSOIL Motorcycle Oil compare to Harley-Davidson Motorcycle Oil?
Customers tell us about better performance, cooler operation and dramatically lower oil consumption versus Harley oil. Testing shows superior wear protection and better resistance to high-heat viscosity shearing.
Should I use a gear lube instead of 20W-50 motorcycle oil in my Harley transmission?
There is no need. As mentioned, AMSOIL MCV 20W-50 contains a generous amount of extreme pressure (EP) additives to resist metal-to-metal contact. It also delivers smooth shifting and cool transmission operation. Some riders use Severe Gear 75W-110 or 75W-140 for their transmissions – which is fine – but there are no clear-cut benefits over the 20W-50.

Can AMSOIL Synthetic Oil cause Harley-Davidson cam roller bearing problems?
There has been a persistent rumour that synthetic oil is so “slippery” that is causes cam roller bearings in some Harley engines to “skate” or “float”. My upline dealer examines this completely false premise in his article Does Synthetic Oil Cause Harley Cam Roller Bearing Problems?
