Canadian Tire No Longer Carrying AMSOIL Products
Update: CTC and AMSOIL have come to an agreement and you may see AMSOIL products back on the shelf at your local Canadian Tire.
In a recent announcement AMSOIL was unable to negotiate the required March price increase with Canadian Tire Corporation. CTC has decided to no longer carry the AMSOIL product lines.
Products on the shelves at CTC will still be available but will no longer be restocked. I would expect you’ll have a hard time finding motorcycle oils on the shelf after the first sale this fall.
If you are looking for a new source of AMSOIL products for your equipment. Please contact me to get quotes for wholesale or small local purchases directly.
Another great option is to have a look at the AMSOIL online locator to find a local dealer or shop that can supply you with AMSOIL products.

AMSOIL Introduces Synthetic CVT Fluid
AMSOIL has just released a Synthetic CVT Fluid for continuously variable transmissions. This product will be a replacement fluid for most all major automakers using CVT’s. CVT transmissions have been prevalent in Nissan vehicles for several years now and other brands such as Honda, Toyota, Dodge, Subaru and Suzuki have been integrating this technology. AMSOIL has used their synthetic oil expertise to create a CVT Fluid that is an upgrade over OEM fluids at a very reasonable price. The new fluid will be available in US quart bottles or 9.45 litre jugs.
The basic concept of the CVT has been prevalent in snowmobile and some industrial applications for generations. Automakers have moved to this technology for the smooth operation and fuel economy benefits. This video produced by Suzuki Motors gives a brief overview of the concept.
A CVT fluid’s main task is to prevent wear in drive belts (or chains), pulleys, clutches and bearings. Another chore is to provide cooling for transmission components. It is vital that the CVT fluid is able to conduct these tasks without interfering with the torque transfer duties of the transmission.

Save on Fuel
The CBC posted their top eight ways to save on fuel as prices continue to climb at the pump.
I don’t agree with all of them.
- Choosing supreme gas for an automobile that specifies regular won’t improve fuel mileage since octane ratings are for compression. You may see some improvements in fuel economy if you choose a fuel that has no ethanol in it since it’s energy content is lower than gasoline [wikipedia].
- Sparkplugs last longer than a year. You may not want to go the full 160,000km on the same set and be sure to replace them with high quality plugs at or above OEM specs.
I would move the behaviour items further up the list too. Stops and starts as well as speeding can really increase your fuel consumption.

How hot does your Motorcycle get?
AMSOIL intentionally removed cooling across the air fins on the dyno and disabled the temperature safeguards on this 2019 Harley Street Bob (updated). This was done to torture this V-twin engine beyond normal operations testing the abilities of the AMSOIL 20W-50 Synthetic Motorcycle (MCV) oil in abnormally high heat situations.
New Oil Filter End Cap Wrenches
AMSOIL has released a revised line of end cap oil filter wrenches to cover almost all of the Ea Oil Filters for automotive and motorcycles.
All filters use a 3/8″ square socket drive to get into hard to reach locations.
Once the filter is hand tightened, only wrench-tighten 3/4 of a full turn or to the torque specification in your maintenance manual.

Canadian Price Adjustment March 1st, 2014
Despite AMSOILs best efforts to avoid adjusting pricing, continued substantial changes in the exchange rate between the U.S. and Canadian dollars has forced AMSOIL to implement a minimal Canadian price adjustment effective March 1. As a U.S. company that exports to Canada, AMSOIL is impacted greatly by fluctuations in the exchange rate. The Canadian dollar has decreased in value by more than 7 percent since the last Canadian price adjustment and it is forecasted to continue dropping in value. In order to offset the increased cost of doing business in Canada, AMSOIL must implement a price increase of 4-9 percent for all products. Prices will increase by an average of 7 percent.
AMSOIL will continue monitoring the exchange rate and, as the company has done in the past, adjust pricing up or down as conditions dictate.
Even with a price adjustment, AMSOIL synthetic lubricants remain the most cost-effective choice on the market, saving customers money through extended drain intervals, reduced wear and maintenance and maximum fuel efficiency.
AMSOIL Upgrades Saber Professional 2-Stroke Premix Oil Formula
AMSOIL has upgraded the formula of Saber Professional 2-Cycle Premix Oil for 2014. The biggest perceptible change other than the packaging label update is the addition of a gasoline stabilizer component to the premix oil. We also note from the specification numbers that they have tweaked the formula throughout.
I have been using Saber Pro in my 2-stroke string trimmer for several years and can confidently attest that the previous formula was excellent. The fuel stabilizer addition is a solid move that makes this product a complete package.
The biggest selling feature of Saber Pro is something that is not new. With this synthetic premix comes the ability to use a single fuel/oil ratio for all the two-stroke implements you own. Saber Pro mixed at anywhere from 75:1 to 100:1 will IMPROVE the performance and wear protection of engines requiring mix ratios of 20:1 through 100:1. This has been true since AMSOIL first released a synthetic premix oil in the mid-1970′s making this tried and true technology.
